Volunteering/Committees

Volunteers are critical to the success of Habitat York. We invite volunteers from a variety of backgrounds, skill sets and professions to partner with us in various ways to help us build homes for the working poor in York Region and Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Habitat homes are largely build with volunteer labour which keeps costs at a minimum. It provides you with a great opportunity to learn a new skill, all under the experienced eye of our site supervisors.

How You Can Help

You probably have heard about how we build homes for those in need, but building home is just one small part of the Habitat York volunteer experience. Please complete the Volunteer Application form and return it to Habitat York either via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. ReStore

Volunteer your time in customer service or warehouse operations. With two locations in York Region, the ReStore plays a pivotal role in helping fund our operations by offering donated new and used household and building materials for sale to the public.

ReStore Salvage Crew

Salvage crews visit donors’ homes to recover sellable items from home renovations and demolitions. Our most common salvage job is full kitchen removal. Participation on the salvage crew does not require a fixed time commitment as volunteers are called as jobs arise. Trade and construction experience is preferred.

Committees

Contributing to the overall direction of Habitat York are a number of active committees that facilitate our operations. Marketing and Communications, Fund Development, Community Outreach, Family Services, Build, Site Selection and Admin and Operations are various committees that typically meet once a month to work on several differ annual initiatives.

Build

Whether you are a high school student looking to complete your community service hours, part of a workplace looking for a unique team building experience or an individual seeking to help out in your community, volunteer builders are always needed. Building schedule updates will be posted on the Web site or call 905-868-8722/866-638-7242.
