Essay Impacts many in York Region

Sofia Vavaroutos will tell you that a home is more than just brick, stone, mud, straw, snow, ice or wood.  Sofia will also tell you that a home isn't something that you should want - it is something that you deserve.  Sofia was a runner-up in the Genworth Financial "Meaning of Home"contest and won  $5,000 which she has donated to Habitat York Region to help build two homes in Keswick.  Her essay has been read to members of the Ontario Legislature at Queen's Park as well as to members of the Council at the City of Vaughan.  If you would like to hear the rest of Sofia's essay, come to the 2012 Summer Social.  Sofia would love to have you join her in making a difference for families in her community, too!

ReStore Volunteer earns grant from TD Bank

Congratulations to Donald Baker for receiving a TD Volunteer grant for the volunteer work he does at our Newmarket ReStore.  In recognition of his volunteer service, TD Bank Group has made a $500 donation in Donald's name to Habitat York Region.  The monies will be used to help build two semi-detached homes in Keswick this summer.

Newmarket ReStore seeks owner of image left in dresser

Be sure to check your donations before handing them over to the ReStore.  A recent donation unearthed a black and white photograph with ten men in berets posing in front of tank with C23 written on it.  The ReStore is looking for the owner.  To read the full story, go to http://www.yorkregion.com/news/article/1336043--newmarket-restore-seeks-owner-of-image-left-in-drawer.  To see the story on City TV, go to http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/videos/201450.
